Installing a foosball table is cool and all, but there are more effective (and much cheaper) ways to motivate employees and make them feel valued. Here are a few:

  • Take a stand. Grab a cup of joe and huddle up with your team for a quick stand-up meeting. Have each person share what they’re working on, what they need help with and if they have any time to spare.
  • Make philanthropy a priority. Giving back year-round has awesomeness written all over it. Not only does your team come together to do good for the community, but it makes them feel proud about where they work, ultimately building loyalty among them.
  • Give them some space. Fact: Computers work just fine outside office walls. A work-from-home option can boost morale, reduce turnover and allow employees to prove that they can be productive… even in sweatpants.
  • Keep tequila within reach. (But maybe not in your desk drawer.) Whether it’s to celebrate a job well done or just because, call an afternoon margarita meeting in the breakroom. Our go-to recipe here at Bonfire5 is tequila + this + a splash of H20.
  • Chow down with new employees. There’s nothing crummier than eating lunch alone on the first day of your new job. Rally the troops and pick a spot with good food and big tables so everyone can get to know the newbie.
